Hawe Telekom launches DWDM PoP in Vilnius

Hawe Telekom has completed the extension of the DWDM network between Warsaw and Vilnius. PoP in Vilnius is the first DWDM PoP launched by Hawe Telekom outside Poland. The investment enables provisioning of transmission channels with a bandwidth of n x 100 Gbps.

The investment will allow Hawe Telekom to increase its share in transmission service market between Germany and Poland, and Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, as well as Finland, where regional data centres belonging to global OTTs, internet services and cloud computing providers are located.

The system installed on the route between Warsaw and Vilnius is one of the most modern carrier-grade long-distance DWDM systems in the world.  It enables the launch of nx10G and nx100G channels. Its total bandwidth is at least 16 Tb/s.

– As Hawe Telekom, we are gradually implementing our long-term strategy of building a bridge between Europe and Asia. The completed Warsaw-Vilnius section is yet another investment aimed at increasing the efficiency and bandwidth of our network. We are observing a constant increase in interest in Hawe Telekom's services among domestic and foreign partners, which is why I am convinced that the new investment will allow us to strengthen relations with entities interested in data transfer to Vilnius and Moscow – emphasises Dominik Drozdowski, Vice President of Hawe Telekom.

The Lithuanian section is part of a key investment realised by Hawe Telekom, which is the launch of a DWDM transmission system between Moscow and Frankfurt. Further sections will be completed in the first quarter of 2021.

The key point on the route of the investment executed by Hawe Telekom is Warsaw, which is currently indicated as one of the most important hubs in the region of Central and Eastern Europe (Cushman & Wakefield report, "Data Centre European Secondary Markets"). Warsaw has recently attracted such giants as Microsoft and Google, which have announced investments worth nearly USD 3 billion. Among others, Equinix and a cloud company Aruba have also confirmed their investments.
