Hawe Telekom, Fiord and PING-WIN launched a new DWDM connection between Warsaw and Stockholm

Hawe Telekom, Lithuanian company Fiord Networks and the Latvian company PING-WIN launched a new DWDM connection between Warsaw and Stockholm. The connections are deployed in a coherent DWDM network with no electrical regeneration. The new fast route through Vilnius and Riga provides a good alternative for already existing networks. The investment enables the launch of transmission channels with a bandwidth of nx10G and nx100G.

The Warsaw-Stockholm DWDM connection is a yet another joint investment of Hawe Telekom, Fiord and PING-WIN implemented within the last few months. The Warsaw-Stockholm RTD is lower than 20 ms.

Warsaw, as a regional communication hub is a core termination point for the new connection in Poland, although other locations are possible. The capital of Poland has recently attracted tech giants like Microsoft and Google, which have announced investments worth nearly USD 3 billion. Further investments were announced by among others a cloud company Aruba, as well as Equinix.

'The DWDM transmission system of the Warsaw-Vilnius-Stockholm route provides the response of our company to the needs of international telecommunication operators, content providers, financial sector or shared services centres. We focus on managing the east-west transit traffic, yet we see a significant demand for powerful north-south connections. We started with the Stockholm section', stresses Przemysław Gągała, International Sales Director in Hawe Telekom.

'The data transmission channels in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are the core elements of our international infrastructure. These make it possible for us to deploy the new, fast and unique routes in Europe. We have reliable infrastructure and are delighted that we can use it to manage the new connection. I believe that the latest investment will strengthen our position on the operator market and give us the tools to win additional clients for the new geographic areas', says Sergei Filatov, Business Development Director in Fiord Networks.

Hawe Telekom has been steadily developing its own and partner connection networks which makes it one of the leading operators in Central Europe. The company has 19 000 km of fibre-optic lines and distribution networks encompassing entire Poland. Hawe Telekom has been consistently implementing its strategy of building the bridge connecting Europe and Asia. Advanced works of the company on deploying the new transmission connections at the north-south axis of Europe are underway. Construction of the supranational road investment – Via Carpatia – will enable the establishment of the new international transmission system.

Moscow-Warsaw-Frankfurt DWDM

This is a key investment carried out by Hawe Telekom, Ul-com Media and FIORD in April 2021. During the tests of the Moscow-Warsaw-Frankfurt route, a RTD of 31.6 ms was confirmed, which is a result similar to the best available between these endpoints. Work is underway on reducing the RTD below 30 ms throughout the entire route. In the first stage Hawe Telekom launched an access point in Frankfurt am Main, in early 2021 it completed the extension of the DWDM network on the Warsaw–Vilnius section. At the end of March in Vilnius, the Polish operator's system was merged with the Russian FIORD. Nx10G and Nx100G transmission circuits are available, and the total system capacity is at least 12 Tb/s. Over a large part of the route, the system enables the detection and localization of fiber damage.
